Carrier 59TP6C filter size
The Carrier Performance 59TP6C gas furnace has no filter rack of its own, so the filter size depends on the casing width and the return. Side return is 16 x 25 x 3/4 on every width. Bottom return is 14, 16, 20 or 24 x 25 x 3/4, set by the casing width.

The 59TP6C is a two-stage, variable speed condensing gas furnace in Carrier's Performance line. Its installation manual says there is no internal filter rack and an external filter is required. That is why the furnace model number alone doesn't tell you the filter size. You need two more facts: how wide the casing is, and whether the return air comes in the side or the bottom.
Find your casing width
The size code in the model number gives it away. Units coded V14 (040V14, 060V14) are 14-3/16 in. wide. V17 units (040V17, 060V17, 080V17) are 17-1/2 in. V21 units (080V21 and both 100V21 models) are 21 in. The 120V24 is 24-1/2 in.
Side or bottom return
With a side return, every width takes a 16 x 25 x 3/4 in. filter. With a bottom return, the filter grows with the casing: 14 x 25 on the 14-3/16 in. casing, 16 x 25 on the 17-1/2 in., 20 x 25 on the 21 in., and 24 x 25 on the 24-1/2 in. If both openings are used, the manual says each opening needs its own filter.
The manual lists these as 3/4 in. thick washable filters. Disposable filters sold as 1 inch are usually 3/4 in. thick in fact; see the size pages linked above for each brand's actual size.
Media cabinet option
Carrier's optional media cabinet takes either a 1 in. filter or a media filter that is 4-5/16 in. deep, not 4. The 16 x 25 Carrier media filter FILXXCAR0016 is listed at 15-3/4 x 24-3/4 x 4-5/16 in. Technical Hot & Cold Parts says it has been replaced by part FILXUMC081625. A retailer's 16x25x4 may be shallower than that, so check the depth before you buy.
The manual's footnote also says a side return may use a different filter size than the table, so measure the filter you have before ordering.
